Liliana Heker (Argentina, 1943), biography
Argentine writer born in Buenos Aires. She studied Physics and was co-director for the literary magazines "El escarabajo de oro" (1961-1974) and "El ornitorrinco" (1977-1986). She started writing since she was very young, and
her first short story, "Los juegos" (1960) appeared in the magazine "El
grillo de papel", which she included later in her first book of short stories
"Los que vieron la zarza" (1966). To this followed: "Acuario" (1972), "Un resplandor que se apago en el mundo" (1977), "Las peras del mal" (1982), "La crueldad de la vida" (2001), and the novels "Zone de clivaje" (1987), and "El fin de la historia" (1996). She has gathered all of her short stories in the volume "Los bordes de lo real" (1991), and she is, as well, author of the essay "Dialogos sobre la vida y la muerte" (2000), which includes an interview to Borges. Her short
stories have been translated into English and many of her tales have also been published in Germany, Russia, Turkey, The Netherlands, Canada, and Poland. Heir of the great American short-story tradition, Liliana Heker is considered one of the most outstanding Argentine storytellers.
